A special meeting of Penzance Town Council was held on Friday morning to consider again the Question of the purchase of Penalverne estate. It will be remembered that this question was discussed at great length at the last monthly meeting of the Town Council, when resolution that the Council offer Col. Bolitho, the owner, for the estate, to include Penalverne House was carried. It appears there were certain conditions, attaching to the sale which were disclosed to the committee when conducting the later negotiations and it was thought well that the whole Council should be made fully acquainted l with the circumstances. A meeting of the Council in committee was held, as stated, on Friday, when Col. Bolitlio's conditions were accepted. It is understood that the plot of land on the west side of the Public Buildings, now used as grazing land, will be included in, the purchase price of £8,000. This was not comprised in the original scheme, as the land is not regarded being in the Penalverne estate when the car park was originally laid out the rear of the Public Buildings, it was hoped that some future time the land on the west side of the building would come into the possession of the Council, and that the car park could be extended, giving additional facilities for entry and exit. Evidently the members of the Council favour of the purchase of Penalverne estate for the building of workmen's dwellings had this in view. Some of this plot of land if the scheme is sanctioned by the Ministry will be used to widen the road leading to the new building estate. At the last meeting of the Council, the Mayor urged the importance of opening up roads, through the Penalverne estate to the Pare Wartha estate and the Weethes Cottages and Stanford-terrace.
