From Billie Holiday (no pedestel high enough for that lady) - I will quickly move through Diana Ross who played her in 'Lady Sings The Blues' to two of the really talented (and yes personal opinion prevails here) of the Motown era - Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell - The Onion Song.
I guess 'peter sellers could be stone suppliers ... So Quarrymen and Putting on the Style, which brings us back to either Lonnie Donegan or The Beatles ....
