View attachment 196 A woman died and five people were injured in a four-vehicle crash on the A30 in Cornwall.
The crash, at about 0250 BST between Highgate Hill and Victoria, near Bodmin, involved three cars and a Ford Transit van.
A 39-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The injured were taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
Police closed both carriageways until 1600 BST for an investigation.
The cars involved in the crash on the westbound carriageway included a Mercedes A140, a BMW 316 saloon and a Nissan Micra.
One vehicle went through the central barrier on to the eastbound carriageway.
Four of the six people involved in the crash were left trapped inside their vehicles and had to be released by the fire brigade, police said.
The extent of the injuries of the five people taken to hospital is not known.
The A30 is one of the main routes through Cornwall and Devon, completely crossing both counties.
