The guy third in from the left at the front looks very much like Gerry Gazzard, and the third from the right at the back like Barry Matthews and both were Penzance footballers.
The chap 3rd from the left is my uncle Harold Glidden and next to him with a ciggie in his hand is my Dad Thomas ( Jock ) Cooper. Dad played for Penzance too. Not sure of the date.
I think my grandad, Morley Richards, is in the middle of the second (back) front row. He did use to help out with the football club, though didnt play.
This is a Penzance Football Club outing, probably early 50s. Those that I know are: Jimmy Richards (my father), Gerry Gazzard, Jock Cooper, Jesse Goody, Clifford Prouse, Charlie Sutherley, Morley Richards, Barry Matthews, ? Jackson, will come up with more when I find a caption I have.
I think this is more likely to be in the early fifties myself. Within my memory (and I lived in New Street from 1959) the Johnson s Cleaners and Williams and Badcocks were both still operating at the top of Market Jew Street.
I note that the blindstop on Williams and Badcock was made with a lion head, Mr Perkins was here. A number of these have disappeared over the years; they are getting rare. I also see Opie s Chemist was still there. I do not recognise a single person there, too young, I guess.
