Born Winifred Alden, in Wandsworth, my mother was an exceptional woman. She spent her last days in St Mary's Haven, and in her 98th year, she passed on. During her life she was always the most uncomplaining of people, never raising her voice, and resignation and sacrifice were her bywords. She raised nine children but was widowed in 1962 and worked as School Sec. at St Mary's RC Primary School until over 70 when Cornwall CC became aware.
