What s that shop next to the West of England Knitting Company (!!) called? Where Halifax is now? It almost looks like Currys but I m sure it s not!

Definitely Curry s. They also had a shop in Alverton St as well.
I m loving those cars - Anglia, Popular, Vauxhall Victor and Cresta, also what about the parking!

I really can t remember there being that volume of traffic back then. When number-plate collecting in Alverton in those days, you had to search the whole estate for a mere handful of cars.

@denanmor - No pavement on the right of Market Jew Street, just a kerb to stop cars dropping into the water channel.
The reason why traffic flow worked then was because cars were smaller, and could pass in the narrows of Market Place.
That was when car design was neat and actually quite artistic. This was the time of Z-Cars, great police drama.
Now it appears that we have Monster Trucks on the road, very few police and a lot of Drama...

The good days when Penzance was a local shopping centre

... and shopping was a pleasure ... and you did not get greeted by that idiotic are you alright there sir? - that is so crass.
The streets are full of people on their way through town, they were happy individuals and happy families. The shops were full of everything you needed. OK yes there was Hire Purchase, but the notion of wanting any more than we needed was generally a daft idea. Look at where all this living on future earnings has got the country. The presence of the Knitting company signalled a large contingent of people who occupied themselves industriously instead of having notions of instant fame and instant wealth. Dramatic differences .....

That s my car!!! The Vauxhall Cresta, Red and White. 3 forward one reverse, column change, really weird gauges (could have been inspired by Star Trek!) Also a knee crunching entry design to the doors. Good old days. read# read#

I do not hanker after the good old days because this present moment is the only promise we have, but I think those times were in the Halcyon Days - when there was a lot more stability, and we knew where we stood with everything.
