Kenegie - 3

The Obelisk etc., at the upper entrance
Does anyone know the history of this very Cornish granite obelisk? Is it an old standing stone or something made for the entrance?? Interesting laugh# laugh#

I am looking into that - full history of owners and occupiers already completed here.

Seems I will have a lot to look at when I come back in the Summer. laugh# laugh#

As you can see from the list of owners on Kenegie - 2 image, that was quite late for that form of castellation. I need to make a careful examination on site and to follow up the leads that I am building.

Also, why is there an iron band near the top? I see no immediate sign of damage. I consider the castellation to be decorative rather than defensive. Yet not having seen to the rear of this wall I cannot conclusively say it is not of English Civil war period. Anyone care to have trip out to cover the back area of this wall and surrounds??
