Newlyn 1893

Undated photograph, Seawall destroyed(1881), New Road built(1882), Convalescent Home built(1893) no growth in grounds so must be new, North Pier initial work completed(1886), no road across harbour(1908), Lidden all fields, no Art Gallery(1895). Tolcarne expanded including 'Art Gallery Terrace'. Photograph unsigned, from book 'Penzance and Neighbourhood', published anonymously in various editions ranging from 1887 until 1910 (I have two versions of this book, each with different contents). No photographers noted, but some recogniseable as Francis Frith and Co. This one is most likely a Francis Frith.
Make sure that you view this picture enlarged.
Pictures such as this inspire one with awe, knowing how it is now in that same location. Wonderful stuff!

I have the date somewhere, also by implication in photographs and in census records. I will have to filter that one out later. When I finish dealing with three large queries in hand at the moment, I will get back to this one.

Rediscovered this fantastic picture again. Looking back in time is great! Amazing to see the Creeping Lane/Mount Misery area so undeveloped. The wooded area appears to be unwooded here! Just a darker hill - undergrowth rather than trees? I'm talking of Bluebell Dell of course...
