Scillonian 1926

Not all picture postcards were bought; there was a vogue to print your own , a lot of households had a tall box, cenotaph shape, into which the negative was placed, and a blank postcard placed at the bottom. This is one such picture, taken by my grandfather in 1926; Viewfinders were on the top of the camera, and you had to look down at it, the reason why so many old personal pictures are waist height views. The Eastman Kodak box camera here had been placed on the wall, 8 frames to the roll. I have the neg.
Having made the journey in all three Scillonians, and in the Queen of the Isles, I would say that the first ship was the best, she took everything that nature threw at her, and sailed hell or high water.
