Tredarvah Farm House, Alverton 1910

Had previous names such as Luke Rowe's Cottage; built 17th C, before Tredarvah House (which was built c1887 for the Harvey family, of Hayle, the name of their Hayle estate). The cottage was at the end of the original green bank, the road originally just a track in front of Hawke's Farm, with no raised walkway, as now. Old cottages to the north of the road had to be demolished for the road widening.
Anyone aware that Planning Permission is being sought by the new owners to build a single storey building in the grounds? Saw the notice on the lamp post by the letter box.

I was not aware; I am deeply concerned over this application and its consequences. In view of the waterlogged nature of the ground, and its history of water flowing through the upper soil, any building work there will be nothing less than detrimental to the state of the old cottage; displacement and diversion will only serve to direct water into the cottage and it will rise precisely where it finds the least resistance - namely the walls and any stone flag floors. It would be a most foolish proposal if allowed, depreciating the value of the building, let alone the loss of an important building.

Needs further investigation. Hasn t appeared on the Cornwall Council Planning applications page on their website, yet.

Investigation? True, first needs to be investigated are the old rivulets that meet here, with the remains of the old mill leat, which ended in the Mill Pool which is where the present lawn is. In certain conditions the streams discharge heavily underground, and with the recent alterations to the watermains, with the great fill of concrete in the road, that will prevent any previous dispersal underground; the soil is still the original rab bed. It takes time for dispersal through that material.
