From the 1930s I believe.
From the size of the crowd it is surprising to think that within another two or three generations the Chapel would be closed.
Midsummer parade 1971 returning up Church Road. Rev Edward Marsden can be seen here and behind him the Sunday School children who really earned their tea-treat by following the band around the parish to Portheras Cross, Lower Boscaswell and Trewellard if I recall correctly.
St John the Baptist Church Pendeen Sunday School. The head of the parade returning up Church Road. I can name Brian Semmens, Chris Hill and Donald Palk.
St John the Baptist Church Pendeen Sunday School. The parade returning up Church Road after marching around the parish. Not long now until the sports and tea treat.
Those visible include Verona Waters, Mary Derrington and Jack Freestone.
I can't remember the date this was held; it was their anniversary rather than midsummer like Pendeen and St Just.
Sorry about the discolouration, the best I could manage with a mouldy old slide.
The banner of Pendeen Church Sunday School, waiting outside the church for the parade to commence.
Nearest the camera is Chris Hill. Alongside banner is Alvin Hancock, the two little boys in shorts to his right are Roy and Lee Reeves, two holiday-makers from London. In the kilt is David...
This is recognisably Trewellard and labelled as such but has no year given. My guess is early 1930s but what do you think? I'd be interested to hear the opinion of any who knows about costume or anyone who recognises the commemorative mugs visible in the photograph.
