In this, one of the earliest town council meeting over the proposed Treneere Estate construction, it’s easy to see that some really didn’t have the foresight needed to expand the town. Treneere Estate very nearly didn’t happen.

PENZANCE TOWN COUNCIL TRENEERE ESTATE DISCUSSION NOTICE OF MOTION DEFEATED
Sunday Opening of Bathing Pool Controversy. Most of the business of the monthly meeting of Penzance Town Council on Monday night was taken up over the controversial question of the proposed compulsory purchase of the Treneere Estate for the purpose of building working-class houses in Penzance. A notice of motion, tabled by Councillor S. R. Vere, was before the meeting that the Council take no further action in the matter; but after a protracted debate the motion was heavily defeated by 19 votes to 3. ... An amendment by Councillor F. S. Shaw that a plebiscite of ratepayers be taken was also defeated. The other matter which occupied the attention of the Council for some time, was the question of the Sunday opening of the Bathing Pool from 10 am to 6 p.m. An amendment by Councillor E. C. Harvey that the hours on Sunday be from 8.30 to 10.30 a.m., and from 1.30 pm 5.30 p.m., was defeated.
