THESE are the early artist's impressions of how the proposed new Stadium For Cornwall could look.
They were submitted to Cornwall Council in December but now, after being leaked to the West Briton, this is the first time they have been seen by the general public.
If the multimillion-pound development is given approval by councillors it will form part of Truro's city expansion plan and will probably be built on the Langarth site near Threemilestone.
The move is being backed by Cornish Pirates' boss Dicky Evans, who has announced a £3,000 debenture scheme to raise funds.
In an e-mail to supporters he explained: "There is an exciting opportunity to bring Premiership rugby to Cornwall should a stadium be built at last and there probably won't be another opportunity in our lifetimes.
"All supporters of top-class rugby are invited to join a debenture scheme to raise funds."
The designs are the work of top stadium architects The Miller Partnership, which has an impressive pedigree in the design of sports arenas. The Glasgow-based firm is already involved in two projects for London 2012, the Olympic Velopark and the Olympic Handball Arena.
Previous projects have included Leicester City Football Club's Walker Stadium, Manchester United's Quadrant Development and the Pemberton Stadium in Carmarthenshire.
Alan Cadger, a partner in The Miller Partnership, said the designs were only early drafts, and as such they could yet be changed.
The idea, he explained, was to provide a home for the Pirates Rugby Club and Truro City FC.
The plans also include a hotel, which has not been included in these artist's impressions.
"We have been commissioned by Cornwall Council to do an in-depth study into the viability for the Stadium For Cornwall," he said.
"Cornwall Council has put together a very strong team for this project.
"Our feasibility report was handed to the council in December and since then we have just been fine-tuning it.
"Once that's done the main thing will be for Cornwall Council to make a decision."
A spokesman for Cornwall Council said: "This is not something we can comment on ahead of the publication of the feasibility study, which is expected within the next few weeks."
The designs have been revealed just a week after Rod Lyon, general secretary of the Stadium For Cornwall campaign, said the development of the multipurpose complex would be a "fantastic opportunity" and a project of which Cornwall could be proud.
He added it was time for people to show "Cornish spirit – some drive and imagination" to back the 10,000-seater stadium, saying: "At a time when the country is facing massive cuts and job losses we need to invest in the future legacy of Cornwall."

How on Earth a sports stadium is "investing in the future legacy of Cornwall" is beyond me. I think realistically it's not so much a 'Stadium for Cornwall' as a 'Stadium for the Cornish Pirates'.
