This was the remains of the Star Inn in Crowlas after a devastating fire took hold in 1904. The fire was witnessed by Jack Gaurd's mother as she walked across the road to order coal from the coal merchants. She stopped and looked for a while and ran home to tell her family. Her father gave her the belt because she forgot to order the coal.
