The Savoy

The savoy cinema in Penzance. Today lovingly restored by Merlin Cinemas. This photo was donated by them. For many years the cinema laid empty and there was talk of tearing it down. Fortunately along came Merlin Cinemas.

What happened to the Charles Atlas which can be seen atop of the cinema in this pic? My mother remembers it well, and has always wondered what happened to it.

I had been looking for a picture which showed Atlas and Globe clearer, but it does show it; I distinctly remember that character. Probably made by the same firm that made the figures on Frederick Drewitt's other piece of architecture of the time, the Pavilion. They are going the same way, decay and collapse
