W H Smiths

You'll have to be an historian to remember this building. demolished to make way for, what is today W H Smiths. I agree with Mr Meek that this would be a criminal act today... A real shame! Thanks god for preservation orders!
It was in at the time of this picture Edwards the dentist Market Jew Street.

Be good to see it, if you can find it Treeve as I dont remember WH Smith being at Branwell Mill....

Well, of course, you are still a young girl
::11: Sorry sparky that was funny.
@treeve yes that would be good if you can find a copy. I'd like to see W H Smith and what was next to it (now Mill Auto)

There are times, when age hath its privileges, because having lived through it, I have to remember that young girls like you and Sparky were only a twinkle in someone's eye, a generation before. :) The shop was a goldmine, in there before a train journey, newspapers, books, sweets, tobacco. Across the road and in to the ticket office, out on to the balcony and down the steps inside (before the ticket office is where it is now)

I don't actually remember what was next to it? Dragging through the old brain cells at the moment and coming up with nothing! just remember WH Smith on one corner and J. H. Bennetts on the other. Was it some kind of yard?

T F Hosking and co, Agricultural Merchants; Penzance Tel Nr 3042; I still have one of the silver pencils. My father worked there as a storeman.

I only just said to Sparky and HH last night, that I remember as an apprentice with S.W.E.B. when they were in Causewayhead that on the morning run out of town towards Mz that we always stopped for a tea and bacon sanny at the Orange Cafe!!

@welb1931 Symons55 mentioned the Orange cafe last night to me. He said that this was what is now a kebab shop.
If anyone has a picture looking through the archway in to TF Hosking that would be good!
