Originally known as the flea pit this is the Ritz. This photo was kindly donated by Merlin Cinemas. The Ritz later became Mecca bingo hall and later taken over by Rank Bingo. Today it is in private ownership.
And what about Nucky Quill , the grumpy manager who used to introduce the Saturday morning programme? Happy days, indeed
 
Yes i remember the grumpy manager actually he was called Quillter. My auntie [Rosie Bottrell] worked there for a lot of years. They certainly were happy days. Just remembered the Mangeress was called Nora. Brian Richards in Geordie Land
 
If i remember corectly the door man was called Bawden had a son called John had a very bad speech impedement in same class as me at Lescudjack
 
Im going back to around 43 his name wasnt Eric but always had a quipt... showing soon snow drop and her seven drips !!!!
 
Hi, the original organist at the Ritz Cinema was Charlie Cugenven. He all so helped out with Norris William s when he had his augmented orchestra for big concerts and old time dance balls in St.John s Hall in the 50 s. Good old day s !! ?
 
Charles Curgenvan would come up on the organ playing the music from the Pirates of Penzance
